The Bass Guitar in a Western Music is a stringed instrument that is plucked to give sound. It is classified under the chordophone instruments. The bass guitar sounds are characterised by low frequency, and therefore it usually takes deep, dark, round and robust colours. Although bright colours can be applied to the solo performance of the Bass Guitar in urban styles of music. Since its inception in 1960 by Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender, the Bass Guitar has been used largely in several genres and styles of music. Popular styles such as funk, soul, jazz, neosoul, pop, R nB, Rock, blues, etc and African music arts such as high life, juju, soukous, etc usually depend on the sound colour, Melodic Rhythm and ostinato rhythmic functions of the bass.
Bass guitar derived is ideal role from locking rhythmically with the bass drum of the drum sets. This can be achieved by playing same rhythm patterns perceived from the bass drum or percussive rhythm patterns adapted for the bass guitar. This is a popular practice with the bass playing but a creative bass player can modify the bass rhythm and motifs around the basic bass drum pattern from the drum sets. I will be writing on modes of creating bass lines for a song and developing bass patterns or uninterruptedly modifying bass guitar lines to suit a variety of musical styles.
